I would like to take the to wish Peru a very happy Independence ahead of time, as the actual day of Independence occurs on the 28th of July and is a celebration that occurs for 2 days. On the 28th of July it is the commemoration of Peru’s Independence from the Spanish Empire, and a celebration of the Argentinian liberator Jośe de San Martín. July 29th is designated to honor the National Armed and Police Forces of Peru. The celebration is also known as Fiestas Patrias that includes foods, music, clothing, traditions and customs, as a celebration of Peru.
Similar to Venezuela, Argentina, Columbia and the Spanish territories / countries that belonged to Spain, Spain was reluctant to give up Peru, and took years and years to recognize Peru’s Independence, although it could also be said that countries in South / Latin America value their origin, histories and are still loyal to Spain. Peru was the home of the largest Inca Empire of the Americas.
I especially decided to offer my congratulations of Peru’s Independence on this day of the 24th of July 2022 to thank the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Mary’s Shrine, Washington DC., USA, for their special Sunday Spanish Celebration Mass, Fiestas Patrias, as well as to draw my attention to Peru’s Independence Day. I appreciated the Mariachi / Mexican traditional music that was included for this Mass Service, and especially to note the Basilica’s initiatives for inclusive mass services, especially as Peru Independence Day is also celebrated in the United States of America. Thank you for your welcome and generosity to the Peruvian Catholic community.
