I wanted to take the time to think and reflect particularly with regards to the election results, who won and who lost. Whilst there is much confusion with President Donald J. Trump refusing to concede, and the Biden Transition team continuing for transitory processes. As a nation we are left to wonder how words such as unity, and unification can fall into place, when the very leadership is displaying fragmentations.

But then again can we blame a President who does not want to claim loss? Especially to continue to fulfill his desire to serve nation? But with an election loss of a second term, arrives the loss of power, even status, as well as an official title of President. While to weigh-in and say that a Biden presidency, is going to be the best for a nation, and that President – Biden elect has all the answers, this has yet to be seen. We can say that Former President Obama supporters have placed their confidence in a Biden Administration. However, does this also mean to say that we are preparing for a presidency, that is what many are calling a 3rd term of President Obama?
Time will tell. But it is also a decision for the Biden-Elect administration. Will he carve a new path based upon the wisdom of the past? One thing is for sure that, change is never easy. Change takes time. We can feel the difficulty of this through the psychological effects. However, maybe a diverse leadership team is what America needs? To exemplify unity at top level leadership? Especially with the worldwide politically motivated Black Lives Matter movements. But then we are inclined to wonder: Whose voice matters? Which example of leadership matters? Is the globe a simple black and white?

The common sense answer is no. But it might be what the world needs to see right now. However, the dialectic and this questioning, should also be viewed as okay. This is what imagineers, thinkers and futurists do. But is it really about futurists and imagineering, when what it is really about is the lost historical truths that have been covered-up? Or maybe it is a matter of timing? Because history has drawn our attention to continue to imagine and think about possibilty. For this I draw upon the practical wisdom of Walt Whitman as written by Antonio DeLoera-Brust (Mexican-American film maker and writer).
Deloera-Brust writes that poet: “Whitman Wrote, ‘to that composite American identity of the future, Spanish character will supply some of the most needed parts.'” (“Review: Latinos are protagonists in the American,” 2019). Further description is also provided with the book by Carrie Gibson entitled: “EL NORTE, The Epic and Forgotten Story of Hispanic North America.” Gibson rejects the label of Latinos as minorities, but rather “tells the history of Latinos as equal protagonists in the American story.” (2019).

At present we are led to continuously question American Latino and Spanish history. Especially when advancing of social justice and equality really seeks to make society simply more unjust. To silence voices and to make others heard louder. Naturally social justice is not about making America, the nation of Africa or America as the nation of Spain, but rather as what America must describe and seek to create her own identity. As a Western nation. It is more about levelling, or creating a playing-filed where all radicalized categories, minority and majority can feel comfortable. And not to attack and to overshadow one another each and every time.

It is with these thoughts that I remain hopeful for America. And wonder if the lens of unity will seek to exist. For what is viewed as black and white – to incorporate all majority and minority. Maybe President Elect Joseph R. Biden can achieve this, especially with his Presidential work experiences of Vice President? This is simply another opportunity to create and achieve how the United States of American identity seeks to evolve.
