I would like to congratulate the University of Texas at Austin for the Fulbright Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) leader recognition, Congratulations! UT Austin is among the 46 U.S Higher Education Institutes to receive the HSI Leadership Acknowledgement. In accordance with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ (HACU) annual conference, held on October 30, 2023.
While the Fulbright HSI leaders is in recognition of the UT Austin Doctoral degrees, it is important to remember that UT Austin has received the Seal of Excelencia that recognizes the University of Texas at Austin’s commitment to all Hispanic / Latina /o/x student community and populations that attend UT Austin.
I am proud to support and thank University of Texas at Austin President, Jay C. Hartzell for his leadership and support of these recognitions. Thank you, “ ‘The University of Texas at Austin has worked very hard to build a community and academic home for our Latino students that is vibrant, supportive and known for its excellence, ‘ ” (UT Recertified With Seal of Excelencia for Commitment to Latino Student Success, 2023).
I appreciate that Universities / Higher Education institutes are striving to recognize diverse student populations. This helps to validate students as well as to create, cultivate, a sense of student belonging, thus; factors that contribute to retaining students, student academic and life success (Charles Martinez, 2023 ). That truly is reflective of the institution, thank you.
While I appreciate the HSI acknowledgements, I also hope that students are able to be campus contributors, within the campus community and diverse populations. That unites students as a campus family, under the umbrella of the name of the university. In the contexts of this writing: The University of Texas at Austin, USA. I wish you much more continued success!
