BAHAMAS INDEPENDENCE DAY!

I would like to congratulate the nation of the Bahamas, that was officially known as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas a very happy Independence Day. On July 10th 2022 the Bahamas celebrates its 49 years as a sovereign nation that is Independent from the British Monarchy as declared in 1973. As the British settlers arrived in the Bahamas, people also became familiar with British cultures and traditions.

The Bahamas is a country located on the Atlantic Ocean, around Cuba and the U.S. State of Florida, the Florida Keys / south of Miami. Historically the Bahamas was named as Española / Hispaniola by Christopher Columbus on his first expedition of 1492. Columbus thought that he was sailing to Cipangu, Japan when he reached what is named as the Bahamas today. Columbus claimed the Bahamas for the Spanish Crown (Gibson, 2019, p. 9). And of-course Spain was very reluctant to give-up the Bahamas because it was where Christopher Columbus first landed.

I appreciate that it is the Bahamas Independence Day and wish that you will also recognize, protect, preserve this important history. Happy Independence Day!
