I would like to congratulate Uruguay with a very happy Independence day that is celebrated August 25th. This year the people of Uruguay will celebrate their 197th year of independence from the country of Brazil. I appreciate the shared heritages and mixed cultures of Uruguay from Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, and Spain.
Uruguay is a country in South America that faces many challenges, especially with regards to the influence of China. On this day I reiterate to the Biden Administration to remain attentive to the need to protect U.S. and Uruguay relations. I would also like to thank Senator Marco Rubio (R-FLA) for drawing our attention, focus to the Uruguayan Independence, regional and hemispheric concerns.
