The Impeachment vote took place with regards to Mr. Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas on February 6th, 2024. The U.S. House vote did not pass with the votes as 214-216. Upon the numerical outcome I wondered if there should be a specific number or yays or nays for the passage or failure of a vote? For instance: should a vote fail in the house with just 2 nays? Should there be at least 5 or 6 yays or nays to either pass or fail a vote? While this pondering is really to question Senate proceedings, I further reflected upon the historical revolutionary vote for the 1776 Declaration of Independence. I was perplexed and continue to wonder if it is possible to find the numerics for this historical vote? Especially as such a historic vote did shape and change the course of history. Thus; current votes that require careful considerations. Your vote matters.
With respect to impeaching Mr. Mayorkas it is important to note that there are many bills introduced from Senate Members. H. Res. 863 was agreed as failed and has been postponed. This outcome also serves as a chance for Mr. Mayorkas to reflect upon how the situations at the border are handled, as well as a reminder of International Law for individual rights to seek asylum. I am also reflective of the Organization of the American States (OAS) and relations with these countries.
Updated – On February 13th 2024 Mr. Mayorkas was agreed as impeached by the U.S. Senate house vote. While the Senate vote outcome proceedings is in the hands of the U.S. Congress Members, my comment would be as per the reflections of the above paragraph, to also include that I thank Mr. Mayorkas for his service, and think that his origins of Cuba could have worked well for the position, however; it might also mean to take time away until resolutions against Mr. Mayorkas are cleared or not. This impeachment proceeding is also an opportunity to reflect upon the U.S. Southern Border, the fentanyl crisis, crime, gangs, vs., the vulnerable, migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.
