I would like to wish the country of Brazil a very happy Independence Day. On June 7th 2022 Brazil will celebrate the 200th year of Independence that was granted in 1822. Happy Independence Day!!
I was intrigued earlier this morning as I was just reading about Brazil and was not aware that it was the Independence Day today, and would like to thank Senator Marco Rubio (R-FLA) for drawing our attention to this day.
I was reading about the Dutch West India Company that took control of certain parts in Northern Brazil. The French and the British needed help to learn how to get sugar plantations started and that, “The Dutch knew that the French too were beginning to plant in the west of Hispaniola. land to which France was given legal entitlement under the 1697 Treaty of Ryswick. This area became known as Saint-Domingue, and many of the former buccaneers who had used nearby Tortuga as a base were switching to agriculture.” (Gibson, 2014, p. 86.)
From the above I was curious to learn more about Brazil’s history and the interactions from nations such as the Spain, Britain, France and Portugal.
