Entrenched in the World of Islamic Pirates, Catholicism, Spanish explorers and conquistadors, I was reflecting upon the sugar, ginger, jewels, gold, silver mines, that were found in Hispaniola, Cuba and New Spain (Gibson, 2014, p. 70). I wondered has everything been discovered? What if there was still so much to find and discover in the soils and lands of America? Thus; the curious nature of humankind.
Notes: The above thought is from my morning reflections from reading the book entitled: “Empire’s Crossroads: A History of the Caribbean from Columbus to the Present Day” (2014) by the author Carrie Gibson, who also wrote the book “El Norte: the epic and forgotten story of Hispanic North America” (2019. As I began to read the Empire’s Crossroads book, I realized I should have read this book first and then El Norte, but I guess in-life it is ok to go forward, backwards, forwards backwards and so on 🙂 Thank You!
