I would like to express my deep concern for the loss of students upon the University of Houston Campus from committing suicide. On March 20th 2023 it was announced that a student from the Agnes Arnold campus had passed away, this was the second death reported from suicide with an earlier loss that took place in February.
I think that it is important for campus staff to consider why these deaths are occuring in the same building, and establish action items for preventative purposes. I know that students feel pressured from academics, university life, and of course the social components. The devastation of loss of life from suicide is that death is preventable. I pray and wish that students / individuals are brave to reach-out for a helping hand. Your life is precious and a beautiful gift from God.
Thank you to the University of Houston for providing resources to the student community, that are also affected. I continue to hope for your success especially as I found much peace walking upon your campus grounds during the evening sunset. Below are a couple of pictures that I took in 2017. At the time I was not aware the Tilman Joseph Fertitta was Chairman UH System, Board of Regents. I have also included a video of the University of Houston Mariachi Pumas performing at the Texas Capitol, as a mechanism of hope and musical inspiration. Thank you for all that you do to help Houston flourish. You are always there in-times of hardships, struggles and successes. Thank you.
