On June 14th it is the American Flag day. A day to celebrate and commemorate the adoption of the USA flag. I began to think about flag day, and what the flag represents at present, in terms of: democracy, politics, nation, national and International. The flag is symbolic of nation and deserves respect. However, there are views that oppose patriotism, or disregard the flag. We can think about the current state of protests, disruption and societal unrest. Where there is no actual disregard for the flag, but a demand for change of policy, procedure, because an action was deemed unjust. But when we manoeuvre into the spaces / realms, of foreign / international service; one is representing nation. And it is the highest responsibly to protect, safeguard the flag – the nation. Which is why even at the level of international / global, there might be disagreements, but there can never be a waiver of the heart.
