This year Mothers Day is on May 10th 2020. I would like to take the time to wish all the mothers a very happy Mothers Day! Happy Mothers Day! Whilst the biological bond of a mothers is sacred, it must also be recognized that mothers or the role of a mothers can be derived in many different forms. Sometimes a father can provide the nurture of a mother, alongside a mother. Forming a partnership role, rather than the traditional role of a mother and father. But there are also grand-parents, care-givers legal guardians, foster parents, family members and extended family members that take on the role of caring for children.

Throughout the years the roles, responsibility, and levels of care change. But what one hopes that becomes the root and foundation of any relation in parental form, is that of love / unconditional love. Making the relationship a place, that one can always return too. But of course relationships are complicated. Tensions arise and evolve from family break-ups, break-downs, including with children. What is devastating about this, is that humans could probably do much better, even when there is break-ups / break-downs, to detach in a way that is healthy. But of course the recognition of this can only happen, through knowing of what has become unhealthy. But this does not mean to say that relationships cannot be salvaged, because they can be. Sometimes it is the space and time that is needed to understand this too. Whilst becoming aware that relationships may not ever be the same, and will develop differently.

There are also mothers who have passed away. Individuals who take the time to honor the memory of loved mothers and care-providers. The orphans who have never felt the love of a mother or father. Or the childless who desire to have children. We send our love to all. Celebrations arrive in many variety and forms, but let’s face it: not everyone will have the picturesque Mother’s Day, or even with the health pandemic of the Coronavirus – Many may not be able to celebrate with family, friends, or loved ones. With many faced with the feeling of additional loneliness on this day.
But at we take the time to send our love and wishes, within our imperfections or heart aches, let us be reminded of the great sacrifice of Mother Mary. Her birth of baby Jesus. Her endurance as a mother and her hope. Let us be encouraged with the hope of the living spirit, worldly hope to all, who are grieving, loving, living – the hope of the living spirt of Jesus!
